First Team v Hollington FC II
By Peter Giles
Hawkhurst United remain top of the Division, but suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of visitors Bexhill AAC. It was an off day for the hosts as a one goal deficit at the break quickly disintegrated into three adrift. Danny Mcgahan pulled one back with just over ten minutes left for United, but by then it was too little, too late. Bexhill’s rise into second place came courtesy of goals from Harry Saville, Jamie Crone and Lee Roberts.
Little Chelsea had to come from behind at home to Wadhurst United, but finally managed to secure the three points on offer with a 2-1 win. Nick Holland put United ahead in the fiftieth minute after a goal-less first 45 minutes, but Joe Haffenden quickly put Chelsea back on level terms with a strike soon after. Chris Steward then became the hero for the home side by hitting the winner with just twenty minutes remaining.
Sandhurst secured their second win of the season after defeating bottom side Icklesham Casuals 3-0. A competitive first-half saw the home side edge ahead through Dave Harvey. Goals in the second period from Jason Baldock and then Guy Ballard sealed the points leaving Casuals still scratching around for their first points of the season.
An inauspicious start from Hollington United is now beginning to improve after they gained their second win on the trot, with a 2-1 away win at Ticehurst. Rob Mitchell and Gav Ramsden calmed any nerves with a goal apiece for Hollington before the break. Ticehurst did recover their composure though after the interval and a goal from Leon Fisher
did leave the result in doubt up to the final whistle.
